EPHA welcomes the WHO resolution on health impacts of air pollution


The 68th World Health Assembly (WHA) took place between 18 and 26 May in Geneva, where key stakeholders met to discuss among other things, the health impact of air pollution, the West Africa Ebola outbreak, the health and humanitarian crisis in Nepal following the recent earthquake, environmental contaminants and the importance of health at the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in December 2015. Op-ed articles highlight recruitment practices across Europe

EPHA comments on WHO draft guidelines for sugar intake for adults and children


At the end of March 2014, EPHA commented on the World Health Organization’s (WHO) draft guidelines for sugar intake for adults and children. Recently put forward for public consideration, the new proposals aim to lower daily sugar intake for the general global population from 10 to 5% of total calorie intake. Alarming obesity rates in the WHO European Region require urgent action to protect children’s health


A recent WHO Europe Report, presenting an update on the marketing of foods high in fat, salt and sugar to children in the period 2012–2013, highlights increasing obesity rates in children. The overview about nutrition, obesity and physical inactivity in all 53 countries within the European Region, emphasises diverging obesity prevalence rates and the need for joint action to implement necessary policies on all levels, integrated in the WHO policy framework for health.
